Meet the MuttsMeet the Mutts

The Gamut has been around the greater Cincinnati area since 1982, for the first 10 years as The Mark Michaels Band, then The Gamut. All of the "Mutts" have been involved in local live music, performing in many groups, all their semi-adult lives! Come and read their tales of lies, semi-truths, and insinuations....

Emily Baker
Lead Vocal and mean tambourine
Emily Baker has been singing since she was just a little punk, performing with various acts around town including The Annette Shepherd Band, Sometimes Paul, Guardrail Angel, Jennifer Corday, Just M and 12th & Midnight. Influences include Ann Wilson, Janis Joplin, and Robert Plant.
Gary "G-tar" Whittle
Lead Guitar and vocals
Gary has always been interested in Music. Even as a small child, he remembers going into his brother’s room and hearing Jimi Hendrix playing “The Star Spangled Banner” and thinking “I want to do that”! He began his career at Northern Kentucky University studying music from 1981 until graduating in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. Some highlights from that time period were, playing lead guitar for the Jazz Ensemble for four years. This included a tour of New Orleans and Nashville and clinics with Dr. Ellis Marsallis and Ed Shaunessy. He also studied classical guitar with Jose’ Madrigal and John Snowden. He studied classical voice with Gayle Sheard and Nancy Martin in addition to piano with Dr. Diana Belland and Steve Mason. He performed in many classical recitals. After graduating, Gary played in several bands in the Greater Cincinnati area including Target, The Dark Horse Band, Richie and the Students, Hot Wax, and the Vibe. Gary is a music teacher and the music director at Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Anderson, and was the music director at St. Joe's in Crescent Springs Ky, as well as the director of the band and string programs at Covington Latin High School for the past fifteen years. He also sings in the Kentucky Symphony Chorus and was a music minister at St. Joseph Church specializing in children’s liturgies.
Gary "Garph" Willhite
Drums
Gary began banging the skins with the school band at 9(actually it was more like a rubber pad that didn't make enough noise), and started playing classic rock (when it was new) with Millcreek Express by 15. It was an awful name, but a great bunch of guys that could really rock! By 16 we had played just about every CYO dance and school mixer in the city and I was hooked on being part of a rock band. After working the bars and festivals with Borderline, The Gamut, and 12th & Midnight over the last 100 years, I'm really pumped about being back with The Gamut in 2009!! I feel 16 all over again!!!!
Jeff Rankin
Bass
Jeff picked up his first bass at age 15 and has been part of the Cincinnati music scene for the better part of 35 years. Playing in groups such as Toucan, Chaos, Nobody & the Survivors, Ooh La La & the Greasers, The Splits, Hot Wax Show & The Vibe. Jeff says "My goal is to lay down the fondation for my band mates to play on, and to create a groove so deep you"ll have to climb out of it!" So far it looks like Jeff and the Gamut are a nice fit! Let's ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark Glevicky
Keys and vocals
Mark started playing music locally around Cincinnati in 1966 with The Dwellers. That group went on to become The World Machine, with consistent Saturday night mentions on Bob Shreve's All Night Theatre (RIP Bob...we still love ya). Other stellar high school groups included The Cellar Dwellers, The Peppermint Remedy, The Ivy, and a raft of other "lesser known" bands! In 1982 Mark gave birth, led, nurtured, and played keyboard in The Mark Michaels Band, later to become known as The Gamut of Rock and Roll. With well over 1000 shows under his belt in most venues around the greater tri-state area, the boy has seen it all including gigging an outdoor dance at a nudist club. Very interesting indeed, and no the band did not have to undress. Mark has a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC and has worked his "day job" as a Design Engineer and Project Manager at General Electric Aviation for the last 30+ years. He and his beautiful wife Kim (who's the official Gamut photographer!) have 3 children and are also blessed with five wonderful grandbabies. His biggest claims to fame are opening for The Cufflinks (remember the tune " Tracy "? No, didn’t think so) in 1969, Little Feat in 2006, Dave Mason in 08, Jefferson Starship in 10, and Tommy James in 2011. Show business rocks!
Watt
Sound/Light God, Vocals, Killer Harp
Kilowatt is the sound/lighting God for The Gamut. Running sound around Cincinnati for just about every genre and every venue. He’s been friends & working with Jeff Rankin since forever!! His ear for the perfect mix has been with The Gamut since 2005. He also played in The Vibe with Mark, Gary (G-force) & Jeff mixing and singing a few songs in between the Gamut’s short break. When the band gets this guy up on stage the sparks fly. His harmonica playing isn’t too shabby either. Stop by the mixing desk and say hi to Kilowatt but don’t try to touch the control knobs; he may shock you!
